Can oat milk cause eczema and constipation? 15 mo with CMPA

Hello,

I've started weaning my 15 mo DD from the breast with oat milk - she is allergic to cow's milk protein, and eggs, and NOT tolerant to any almond products. I've tried her on an oat milk brand that contained almond oil, and she had a horrible nappy rash the next few days...

So far she likes the taste of the new almond-free brand (very slowly...) but I've noticed her eczema is back Angry and she is constipated. Apart from that no other changes to her diet.

The oat milk I'm using doesn't contain anything she's allergic to (just sunflower oil and seaweed for calcium)... so I have no idea where this eczema is coming from now...
It doesn't look like her regular eczema, ie no red patches here and there, but very very dry thighs that she keeps scratching, and she's generally irritable...:(

any suggestions/ideas to share?
Could it be just weaning itself causing all that trouble?

thanks in advance

Is she ok with gluten? Also as an aside, my DS's dietician said oat milk isn't a good enough substitute for milk (although didn't say why!) so had to give calcium rich foods as well plus plenty of fat (although still BF).

Have you changed your diet? What about central heating or bath products? Could be drying her skin out?

There is a coconut milk you can try - it's calcium enriched. Begins with k but can't remember the name! Worth trying that instead and see if you notice a difference?

Thanks Iggly - she is fine with gluten, and she has oat cereal every day too, so I wasn't expecting any reaction. It's so confusing!!

I'm seeing a dietitian tomorrow, I will check with her, hopefully she's knowledgeable about dairy alternatives... will def ask for the coconut milk. I don't live in the UK so not sure I can find that brand, but we'll see.

My DD now 3 is severely intolerant to dairy, soya, oats & barley.

I only discovered the oats when giving her oat milk (in cereal only) at around 18mths.

I have also recently started giving her coconut milk (she has neocate to drink) in cooking.

Its called Kara and I bought it from Holland & Barrett Smile

don't try making a rice pudding with it though, it was vile, although that might have been my cooking Blush

Simpson can you make rice pudding with traditional coconut milk that you use for a curry instead? That tastes quite nice!

Thanks I might try it Smile

I think I put too much cinnamon in it so it didn't taste good Blush

I can't comment on drinking oat milk, but I did find that putting oat milk into the bath (sock filled with oats) is a magic cure for nappy rash and eczema

Maybe you want to check out on the new US craze: recently on the market is hemp milk made with food grade hemp (absolutely not the hallucinogenic kind) apparently great nutritional value and no allergenic properties. So it would be suitable for toddlers. I am looking into it, anybody using it or knowing about it?
