Is it worth me going to GP about my rhinitis?

Hi, I'm 24 and have various allergies including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, feathers, pollen, and (I suspect) house dust mites.

Frequently when I stay away from home I get an allergic reaction (asthma, sneezing, runny nose) even when there are no animals around. I also often get this at home. I have tried to minimise dust in my bedroom but don't want to go to lots of trouble and expense if it won't solve the problem.

If I went to my GP would they do any tests?

TIA

Unlikely IMO. I was told for both me and my DS that it is just one of those unfortunate facts of life that we are just overly sensitive. You can minimise the allergens - which you have done, but until you can eliminate them all - very unlikely - something will probably always set you off.

Yes. Definitely go to the gp if it is affecting you badly. Ds has a house dust allergy (including others) that causes a blocked nose, runny nose and sneezing. He is on a steroid spray that does seem to help. We tried other medication first but he had side affects, so had to stop.

Continue to minimise the allergens where possible too. This makes a big difference to ds - regular intensive hoovering of carpet and bed matress, washing bedding at +60deg, damp dusting.

Ds also has an inhaler for when he needs it - usually when we stay away from home too.

If you try cutting out dairy foods you may cut out the allergies . It works for me!

And a lot less fuss than a G.P. visit with testing etc.
