Egg free chocolate sponge recipe please

Cross-posted on recipe forum, does anyone have a good eggfree chocolate sponge recipe for DS's birthday cake?

This is what I used for dds birthday last year:

250g Plain Flour
50g Cocoa (for less chocolatey version use 40g)
1tsp Bicarb of Soda
250g Sugar (I used Golden Caster Sugar)
125g Non Dairy Margarine (Pure Sunflower Spread)
300ml Soya Milk
2tbsps Golden Syrup
Tiny pinch of salt
1tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 170C

1. Sieve flour, cocoa and bicarbonate of soda
2. Add Sugar and salt
3. Melt marg, vanilla extract, syrup and milk slowly in a pan
4. Add wet to the dry ingredients and mix
5. Put into 8inch cake tin and bake for about 30-35mins.

I find the texture and flavour improves after a day or 2.

Great timing for me...ds2's birthday next week! Can anyone tell me though, what do you put on top or in the middle of it? Or do you just have it as it is?

I usually put 'butter icing' and a thin scraping of jam in the middle.

(my 'butter icing' = mix up 6oz icing sugar with 3oz dairy-free margarine, plus a large spoonful of cocoa powder)

If it's an 'everyday' cake, I put ordinary glace icing on the top, or 'butter icing' studded with dairy-free chocolate buttons. For a birthday cake, I buy supermarket ready-made icing (e.g. Asda ready-to-roll) and decorate with food-colouring dyed icing etc. (but don't forget to check for egg in the ready-made stuff!)

I usually use a dairy free 'butter' icing as per PennyBlack's post above. Sometimes i find Pure goes a bit soft though, so I use half Trex (white veg fat block) instead as it has a harder consistency. Then decorate with writing icing, sprinkles etc.
