FFS DD2 has started reacting to carrots!!!

apples and carrots.

she came home from school with red marks around her lips. she said her mouth was tingly and throat scratchy after eating a carrot i put in her packed lunch.

just rubbed some carrot on her arm, and she has come up in hives.

just looked it up, as the apple allergy was thought to be Oral Allergy Syndrome. the carrots tie in with the apples.

fgs, no-one belives me when i say apple allergy, its going to wqorse now we add raw carrots to the list.

I worked with a woman who had an apple allergy - no-one believed her either - it's because a lot of people only know about the 'main' 12 or so. DS1 is fructose (sucrose and dairy as well) intolerant, so that includes apples. Bananas are his worst though.
There was a big thing back in the early 90s (roughly then) when carrots caused a lot of reactions. At that time it was apparently related to some of the pesticides that are routinely used in their 'production'. Even washing didn't always help as this product had seeped into the veg itself.
I was reading online the other day about a 4 day diet. Foods are grouped into type and you don't eat anything else from the group within the following four days. It apparently reduces the risk of allergic reactions to certain types of food as it doesn't overload the body with similar irritants.

i'm going to have to update the school tomorrow.

at this rate i'm going to feed my kids one day and wind up killing them by accident its not going well atm

will be asking for a referral to dd4's allergy consultant for further testing

I have a colleque with this too. She can have fruit and veg cooked.

My DS has always reacted to apple skins by throwing up violently and sometimes getting hives. I thought it was because there is sometimes milk protein in the wax on apples (and once posted on here to that effect) I know what you mean about nobody believing in apple allergy. It sounds so unlikely, doesn't it?

Finding new allergies can seem so overwhelming.... I know this probably going to sound a bit hollow and uncomforting when you are going through such a horrid time, but my DS has just outgrown his allergy to peaches and plums (related to OAS) and can also now eat tomatoes and citrus.

I wish there was something useful I could say!

good point about cooking fruit and veg. - I have found that DS can eat cooked apple and carrot (peeled) but always throws up when they are raw.

3rd post, but just wanted to add that you are not going to kill your DCs (although I understand your fears!!!) I have read many of your previous posts and you are a very clued-up and careful mummy!!

greenbananas you did post about the apple skins to me My DS had hives after an apple once but has been ok since, we thought it may be because of the pollen as he's fine with milk/milk protein.

dd2 has hayfever, asthma, and suspected Oral Allergy Syndrome, she has reacted to apples and carrots so far.
also allergic to cats.
she was fine with these for years but then developes an allergy.

been looking it all up and loads of cross reactions to do with birch pollen pose a potential problem.

could be a true allergy now though rather than OAS, so really need to get a referral and tests done.
