Hi
I gave him some scrambled egg today and as he was eating realised he was getting a red rash round his mouth. He seemed fine apart from that so just kept an eye on him. Didn't realise till I googled it afterwards that they aren't supposed to have egg White so young?
Anyway rash calmed down a bit by bedtime but when dp gave him his bedtime bottle he threw up everywhere. He is now asleep but can anyone tell me what the next step is? What should I look out for over next couple of days, shall I take him to the doctors?
He also has eczema as have I and I suffer from hayfever too.
Thanks

Hi Rosedee

Tbh it sounds like he may haveIan egg allergy. in your place, I would take him to the GP and ask (insist) that you are referred onwards for testing (this may take some time, tho). Also ask the GP to prescribe a liquid antihistamine to use if he has another reaction (get 2 bottles, keep one at home and carry the other round with you).

In the meantime I would avoid egg in its 'eggy' form, and possibly in its baked form too (in cakes etc). It sounds like he had a mild reaction and probably would do again but sometimes second / subsequent reactions can be worse.

I would also delay introducing peanuts to his diet as children who are allergic to egg are more likely to be allergic to this, too.

The good news is that most children outgrow egg allergy by age 5.
