I saw my mother yesterday for the first time in a few weeks. She looks terrible. Her house smelt of pee. Her fridge was full of out of date/ mouldy food. The microwave is disgusting. Washing machine is broken.
She is deluded, she thinks she can go back to work soon - she has been off for around 2 years now.
She told me she is 'only' drinking half a bottle of wine daily. The 2 massive bags of empty gin/ wine bottles tells a different story. She is out of rehab about 8 weeks and there were no empties there before she got home.
I know rehab is not a fix all or the full ''solution'' but she isn't even trying.
There is a massive back story of course! She largely left my up brining to relative until I was 12. Lived with an alcoholic, controlling, abusive man. Moved me in with them. It was a sh*te show.
I have done nearly 2 years of counselling specifically for adults who were abused and neglected as children. It has helped a lot.
But it still breaks my heart to see her like that and know I can't fix it. I do know it's not my job to fix it, but it was my job to cover it and make everything OK for decades.
She turned 60 this year. It makes me nearly cry (I don't cry) when I think of her actually dying but I know she most likely will soon. She can't eat properly
I just feel quite deflated by it all.
I don't think I have a question just putting my heart out there. I do go to al-anon. I have done ACOC and SMART family.
