Three years alcohol free and focusing on health again

Hey lovely mumsnetters just wanted to share that I am now three years on from giving up alcohol. It’s definitely up there with the best decisions I’ve ever made. I am now trying to tackle my weight and have started running and eating healthy food again. It’s not always been easy but I’m feeling good about myself again and hoping things will be brighter in the future.

@Itsenoughnow Congratulations! From having family members with addiction problems I know how hard recovery can be. Good luck with your ongoing self care.

Well done that is an amazing achievement !! I am just over 1 year now and like you best decision I’ve ever made

my sleep is so much better, my anxiety reduced. I’ve definitely over compensated with food so weight and getting back into exercise is on the list for this year - but an alcohol free life is the life !!

@Itsenoughnow huge congratulations! I’m coming up to 16 months and find it so liberating to not ever think about drink. Do those close to you still drink? That’s the bit I find hard with my DH…

Congratulations! Massive achievement for you. You will get a huge buzz from the running (I enjoy running). I 'stopped' drinking about 10 years ago but I stupidly thought I could do 'occasional drinking' which lead to me getting blind drunk/blacking out on each occasion. I have been completely alcohol free now for 500 days and it's been so liberating.

Well done! That’s fantastic.
You will have certainly had stressful times during those three years and every single time you chose sobriety.
Before you know it, the three years will be five, and then ten.
You will also notice the health benefits and now you are really loving forwards with next steps.
It is such an amazing achievement!

Big congratulations! I’m at 2 years and basically doing the same as you. Losing weight and getting my health on track has been the focus of my life and I figure it’s about time after years of partying 🥴 Best of luck to you!

Thanks so much for all the lovely messages, 88expertprocrastinator yes I still have people close to me who drink, my DH only tends to drink when he’s out, rarely at home which helps, thanks again for the supportive messages and all the best to everyone on their alcohol free journey
