After many years of having a problematic relationship with alcohol and admitting I am an alcoholic, I am one year sober today.

I've bought myself a birthday cake to celebrate ☺️

What an achievement! You did it - you’ve done what a lot of us with a problematic relationship with alcohol would love to do too - a whole year!

How do you feel now? Has it taken a year to find your equilibrium? I’m a week in, after so many times of trying, so it’s great to see your post

Clarinet1 · 26/04/2026 13:54

Well done! Congratulations! I’m sure it was (probably still is) bloody difficult but you’ve come a long way and if you’ve got this far you can do it!

HappyMuma · 26/04/2026 13:55

Many congratulations! I bet it’s been very tough but you’ve done it! And you’ve earned that birthday cake, enjoy!

CloudPop · 26/04/2026 13:55

Well well done.
would you like to tell us how the year has been and the highs and lows?

I’m at 9.5 months and it’s always helped me hearing how others ahead on the journey are finding it.

desiderata328 · 26/04/2026 21:38

Congratulations 🙌

I'm not sure I'll ever find my equilibrium, when I was drinking I was seriously drinking and it was affecting everything and everyone in my life. I was at risk of losing everything. I'm just taking it day by day. I am in a much better place now though, I am enjoying not feeling or being sick all the time, not having to drink to sleep (/pass out!). I'm so lucky, my friends and family have been so supportive, my biggest cheerleaders! I also have a keyworker at the local D&A unit, who is amazing and tells it like it is. It's going to be a life long battle but I'm here for it!

What an incredible achievement! I’m at the just over nine month mark, so it is fantastic to read positive, success stories from those further along the AF journey.

I lost a very close relative to alcoholism a few years ago. Your incredible achievement has made me incredibly happy today. I am very proud of you. Stay happy and healthy ❤

Congratulations! That's an amazing achievement!

ButterYellowHair · 28/04/2026 10:29

I’m 7 months and can’t wait until this is me. You should be very proud. Especially in a society so utterly drowning in booze at every corner.

I raise my tea cup to you!
