Cutting back with a view to quitting

I have drunk so much recently. Five nights a week. Had the equivalent of 5 double gins last night. I’m shaky this morning and my eyes are bloodshot.
I don’t know how I slipped into this as was always a Saturday night and maybe Friday night drinker.
Im going to aim for one night a week only. I’m going to educate myself with books and podcasts about the bad effects of alcohol. I’d like to be completely alcohol free but that’s too overwhelming a thought right now.

Take it one day at a time, focus on crossing the bridge that’s right in front of you and not those further on. I read a lot of quit lit books when I first gave up but the one that completely changed my view on alcohol was Alcohol Explained by Bill Porter, I cannot recommend it enough. I am a few years into my journey now and loving alcohol free life. Wishing you all the best in your journey, there will be ups and downs along the way but it’s an incredibly rewarding experience.

Good for you. You’ve reached your line in the sand. Take one day at a time. There are so many alcohol free alternatives now. I did Dry Jan a couple of times and that reset me to weekend only drinking for a few years but now I am finding I just don’t enjoy it so much. I now aim to never have more than 3 drinks on one day and I very often have none. I find a 0% beer hits the spot for me. Also like Botivo- it’s made from apple cider vinegar and has bittersweet taste. Found it’s the nice glass and non soft drink that feels like a nice drink and that I am not missing out.

Thank you for the encouraging words! It means a lot. And for the recommendations. I’ll get hold of that book and look out for that drink!
