Really need help with reducing my drinking

I’ve drank everyday for the past 2 weeks. Mostly a glass or two of wine and/or a gin and tonic. I am feeling fat, bloated and a bit depressed but since it’s been Christmas and new year I’ve let myself off and decided to start afresh from January.

The thing is my drinking has been creeping up all year. I have 2-3 sober nights per week but will drink without fail Fri-Sun and sometimes a night or two in the week as well.

I need to totally overhaul my habits and change my routine as flopping on the sofa with a drink once the kids have gone to bed has become part of my daily life and is totally habitual. I don’t want to carry on like this. If I could keep it to Fri-Sun only it would be an improvement.

Drinking is a dead end.

Perhaps but I enjoy it. I wish I didn’t but it’s a vice. What I’m concerned about is my general health. I’m 40 and I know I have to think about my health in later life rather than continuing to wing it and hope for the best. I don’t drink to excess or to get blackout drunk but I know it’s a bad habit and when I drink consistently for weeks like I have over Xmas I do end up feeling gross.

There is some dry January threads going. Maybe try something like that? It will be tough but it sounds like the habit needs broken.
