Talk me out of having a drink this evening…

Because I am pretty sure I just can’t have one… I’ve achieved 11 months sober, which if you had asked me this time last year I would never have thought possible!

It’s just that it’s Christmas, everyone is on the Prosecco, or wine or whatever, and I feel SO left out. Which is ridiculous, I know. And I know if I have ‘one’ drink, it will end in disaster, and I do not want to be hungover tomorrow.

Alcohol is the only way I’ve managed to get through Christmas in the past with my (frankly appalling) family, and I miss it very badly this evening, and will do tomorrow as well. I feel very anxious and strung out, and have done for the last few weeks.

Self-indulgent woe is me!

You've done so well, OP! Sorry to hear you're feeling down today, but please remember how amazing you are and how far you have come.

Treat yourself to something lovely that's not alcohol related and keep posting if you need to.

And don't forget that a quick walk outside, even 10 minutes releases lots of endorphins and lifts your mood . . .

Sending best wishes

I also had my first sober Xmas this year OP and my God it has been tough. It’s so difficult when you just want that little lift of spirits and social lubricant to make it all easier.

But it’s shown me how annoying everyone else is when they get smashed and how rude. How they stay up too late and make a mess of everything. And I was far worse than them.

So it’s my final event tonight and even though all the booze is free and it’s with my oldest school pals I will stick to tea or Coke. And feel good about it (I hope) tomorrow.

@ManyPigeons you go girl! ✊

Thinking of you, OP, and anyone else being strong and resisting the demon drink. You should be very proud of yourselves. Your children will love you for it and you can love yourselves. Keep it up 🏆

@ManyPigeons you go girl! ✊

I managed it booze free :) Left at 10.30 after a great night right when people were getting rude and singing (screeching) songs. The right time to leave.

I’ve stuck to my plans, had a great night, didn’t annoy my family member who agreed to pick me up by pushing the time back, won’t miss my train tomorrow morning. My husband will be proud of me. Good stuff all round.

Its the right decision not to drink Op. I always feel better about it!
