Feeling freaked out.

I got my five years in May. DP brought home the Estrella beers which he thought were the AF ones we always have (the packaging is almost identical TBF). I took one from the fridge without looking and downed it as I was thirsty after walking my dog. I suddenly felt strange and looked at the can and it's alcohol. I feel really weird now, my head feels very heavy. It's nowhere near as nice as I remember.

Just looking for some reassurance.

It was a mistake. Bin the rest of them and let it go. Amazing work on getting to 5 years. That is awesome.

Drink plenty of water, clean your teeth to rid of the taste and get to bed.

This wasn't your fault, it was horrible mishap. Do not beat yourself up, or anybody else.

Be very very kind to yourself. Don't even think about re-setting. You still have your sobriety, this was not your choice.

Just be kind to yourself and understand it for what it is - a horrible mishap. It's done, it's over xx

I have a lovely friend, 30 years sober. He did similar. Punch that he didn’t know had alcohol in it. He didn’t relapse and doesn’t ‘count’ it.

But you need to make sure if you need support, you seek it.

I am a little puzzled about drinking alcohol free beers though. I’m not sure that’s a choice that’s entirely safe IYKWIM. It’s adjacent to beer and reminiscent of beer. And, as you’ve found out, has risks.

It was an accidental blip - ignore it. I’ve had similar happen. Congratulations on 5 years!

Thanks everyone. I woke up with this huge sense of doom that I couldn't place, then I remembered and was like aaaah it's not a big deal. I'll give the rest of the beer to my neighbour today. No harm done 😁
