My mom is an alcoholic and has been for about 20 years, she takes so many tablets like anti depressants, sleeping tablets, anti histamines and god knows what else but she’s been itching since Friday all over her body, it’s only getting progressively worse, she said even her eyes are itchy.
she’s been to the GP this morning and they gave her a stronger anti histamine, I can’t believe they didn’t offer her a blood tests or refer her for one, so I’ve told her to go to the walk in now to ask for one which she doesn’t want to do because she’s scared.

i can’t go with her as I have no one to look after my children, she drinks very heavily I’m worried it can be liver failure.

has anyone had this itchiness or know anything about it?

Hi, i am sure itching can be a symptom of issues with your liver although it may be unrelated. If the GP is aware of her alcoholism why did they only prescribe anti histamines and not look at further investigations? That is terrible practice! So sorry you have this worry. Best wishes to you and your mum!

Itching is a symptom of liver disease. Your mum needs to work on the alcoholism if she can bring herself to do it. The doctor should be able to refer her to help centres in your area. Giving up, or drastically cutting down on alcohol can help the liver to heal in most cases. Good luck, I hope your mum can get the help she needs.
