Sober September

MsSmartShoes · 01/09/2025 21:25

Does anyone fancy a clean month without booze after the summer?

I want to eat fresh healthy food, do more exercise, and have a much needed break from alcohol.

I did three weeks of Dry January.

I do have two events this month. I’d like to do them sober.

Hi @MsSmartShoes I’ll happily join you! I’ve joined another thread too but Sober September was already my ‘plan A’ so here I am! First day done, no alcohol. How was yours?

I definitely need to sort out the exercise and healthy eating too! Did you start dry Jan late or finish early? (Sorry if that’s nosy I was curious about the 3 weeks 😊).

RuLu · 01/09/2025 23:17

I’ll join you! Day one done!

Lacey55 · 02/09/2025 08:13

Can I join? A day behind though. Was really going to start yesterday but failed. I need some support.
I hate myself today, have tried many times and even gone a few months but it's creeped back up again.
Im frightened I'm going to get ill if I continue like this:(

MsSmartShoes · 02/09/2025 12:14

Hello - all welcome! We can do this!

@Hollygohappy I finished early by giving into peer pressure - like a teenager.

I’m using the Days Since app this time. Have added step count and 5 a day too.

if you fold you can reset, but it saves your total and best streaks too.

Hi all! Day 2 done. Long day at work, home late and stressed and would normally cave round about now but I’m determined. If I can’t do September I know the rest of 2025 will be a write off - not letting that happen !
I’m terrible re peer pressure too @MsSmartShoes !! Let’s be strong!
how was everyone else’s day?

Lacey55 · 02/09/2025 22:35

Day 1 done for me! To be honest I felt so rough that it really didn't appeal :)

Really hoping I can do this, have 10lbs to lose and need to start looking after myself

Obsesetits · 02/09/2025 22:39

I’ll join you. I was drinking really heavy at the start of the year and then got told my liver wasn’t looking too good; false alarm and was from an infection I had, but it did give me some food for thought. Now I have a kidney issue currently and although I only drink on occasion/weekends I’m just going to try and hang my boots up. It’s not worth it for me anymore. But I come from a ‘ripple’ heavy family. Games nights, party’s, birthdays all revolve around having a drink. So it will be hard but I want to do it!

LetsGoDoDoDo · 02/09/2025 22:44

@Obsesetits I believe in you! 🙌

I'm on day 5 after a seriously boozey Spring/Summer. Ended up feeling dreadful and sick of myself so am in desperate need of a decent break.

Thanks for the support thread OP!

Hi, I'm on board. Day 2 and already feeling better for it, slept well last night and feel calmer today.
What has motivated you guys?
My drinking had crept up to almost daily before recent holiday, then daily on holiday, it wrecks my sleep and leaves me feeling slightly panicky in the day. I need a reset.

Not so much motivation but I love replacing a wine with some elderflower fizz.. I still use a wine glass to feel like I’m getting the luxury of a glass of wine 🤣

Justwanttobebythesea · 03/09/2025 10:12

I'm on another thread but will join this too as I need all the support I can get.

Day 4 for me. I'm motivated to quit as I've been drinking way too much over the summer, well this year really after a failed dry Jan and as someone else said if I don't do Sep it's just downhill all the way to Christmas. Wine gives me extremely bad anxiety and makes me tired. Out tonight but will drive so I'm not tempted.

MsSmartShoes · 03/09/2025 13:24

Good luck everyone for today.

Ive bought some sparkling pear and raspberry from Lidl to have in a wine glass this evening. It’s very pink, but should hopefully taste nice!

I'm feeling very anxious today. Woke up clear headed and that has brought all my problems to my mind.
Im in a terrible financial position at the moment, I'm in debt and really worried how I'm going to cope.
However, I've just added up all the money I have been spending on wine and it's a shocker! No wonder I'm in debt, I need to keep going iso I can get out of this mess 😢

Hohofortherobbers · 03/09/2025 19:12

@Lacey55 I'm sorry for your worries, but well done for facing it and adding it all up, alcohol won't help you address it and your clear head will.
I slept so badly last night, I'm shattered today, miserable weather, difficult day at work. Just need this day to be over.
Drinking a raspberry rhubarb cordial with sparkling water.

Hollygohappy · 03/09/2025 22:49

Sorry to hear about everyone’s stresses and worries. I guess we all take a drink to relax and forget these but it doesn’t bloody help in the long run. (I get the wine anxiety too! )
Now that we are facing up to our problems (without the rose tinted beer goggles!) we will be able to start fixing them, one by one.

Day 3 done and managed ok. Posting to stay accountable is definitely helping.

Hohofortherobbers · 04/09/2025 21:30

Day 4 done, ready for first sober Friday. I too get the wine anxiety, beer doesn't do it so much. I also get the 3am horrors with wine.

Hollygohappy · 05/09/2025 20:27

Hi All, how is Friday night going? Well I knew it wasn’t going to be easy…..at least I am looking forward to waking up feeling super virtuous tomorrow.
My sleep has been crap this week too @Hohofortherobbers , let’s hope it passes, it’s definitely improved when I’ve gone sober before.

MsSmartShoes · 05/09/2025 20:30

Keep on going! I follow a guy on Instagram and his catchphrase is “get to midnight - go again”! X

Joined friends for a drink after work, had Heineken 0% . Go me!!

Hohofortherobbers · 06/09/2025 21:52

Went to a local event tonight, lots of drinking, but i had sprite. 😇

ECT22 · 07/09/2025 13:47

I’ll join! I’m a teacher and decided to quit drinking before the new term, after a hideous hangover in late Aug. It’s going well so far (day 15) and I don’t miss it. But does anyone else find they feel weirdly hungover at the weekend?

Hohofortherobbers · 07/09/2025 20:09

Yes! I feel a bit tired, thirsty and gave a headache. My tummy is also a little upset Blush

LetsGoDoDoDo · 07/09/2025 23:37

Yes, I can relate to that. Had headaches for the first week. Now on day 10 and beginning to feel less shit but still tired.

Managed to stick to AF beer on Saturday evening with friends but made my excuses to leave after 90 mins as I didn't want to be around drunk people. So glad that I did as it's a joy to wake up guilt free, albeit not as fresh as I'd hoped for!

We've got this 💪

Hohofortherobbers · 08/09/2025 20:57

Second Monday, feeling less deprived now
