Embarrassing situation

I’m a long time lurker who is trying to cut down / quit alcohol with varying amounts of success.

Yesterday, after 10 days of not drinking, I went to an event and drank several glasses of wine over several hours. I paced myself and was definitely not drunk. However when I felt the urge to go to the toilet I didn’t quite make it and, not to put too fine a point on it, I shat myself. I cleaned myself up in the loo and left soon afterwards but I’m absolutely mortified. This has never happened before and now I’m
really worried. Is it just my body’s way of telling me it doesn’t like alcohol any more or have I caused myself some sort of major damage?

Any advice much appreciated. (And I promise this is not a weird poo thread…)

It will likely just be your bodies reaction to several glasses after not drinking. Alcohol affects bowel control because it can cause agitation to the gastrointestinal tract which speeds up digestion. Add in the fact alcohol can relax your muscles and… well, it can lead to unexpected urgency.

Thanks for your response. Really hope it was a one-off thing. I couldn’t believe it. Thank goodness I’m almost certain no one else was aware.
