Dreadful sleep after stopping 😴

pasanda · 31/07/2025 06:33

I stopped my usual bottle of wine or 1L of cider or 3x Bacardi or anything per night on Monday.
My sleep has been terrible!! I thought it would be better but I’ve been awake since 3.56am now and also finding it difficult to get to sleep.
Why? 😒
is this normal?
will it get better? 🙏

well done !! Yes totally normal and it will get better. Your body is just adjusting to falling / staying asleep without alcohol.

alcohol explained by William porter is excellent for explaining the effects on the body and sleep in particular.

stick at it it will definitely improve

It definitely gets better and you will soon be rewarded with the best sleep ever! Well done and keep going.

Thanks ☺️
still awake…..
I hope this not sleeping thing doesn’t last too long. I am honestly shattered!
had no alcohol cider though which is good 😌

Your body is detoxing so this is definitely normal. Well done on stopping.

It will ease off honestly. I found in my first month I was sleeping loads but absolutely bone tired and when I read up there was a thing called ‘sober fatigue’ like my body was catching up on lots of missed sleep

remember any sleep you’re getting now is super quality compared to sleeping after a drink so even if it feels less in quantity it should be better quality
