Going to events

What are your best strategies for avoiding the peer pressure and the pressure to drink at events? I only drink at weekends but am a grey area drinker in that I will always have 1 too many and then comes the anxiety, feeling shit etc. Going to an afternoon event that will go on into the night on Saturday, full of families. It’s a celebration and there will be the ‘ you not drinking?’ comments from my partner and the other parents. I am not motivated by the actual drink so having a soft drink in a wine glass or alcohol free beer won’t work for me. It’s more the social expectation. How do you prepare before you go?

Drive, because I don’t break the law!

Arrange to do something for early next morning.

Have a slight headache coming on so you want to be careful.

Yep like pp I drive. If close by / unable to drive I would take my own non alcoholic drink and stick to it
