New journey, new me!

I have been drinking far too much the last 3 years since I lost both my parents within a short timeframe. The last 3 years have been hell due to then developing severe pain in my face for 18 months then having problems at work with a boss who was a total narcissist! I was laid off a couple of months ago and I’ve been drinking too much. I therefore want to quit drinks during the week to help me moderate with a view to giving up completely once I’ve broken the cycle. I start a new job in a weeks time so also need to have a clear head during the week. Anyone know a new journey wanting to join me!

Hi living the dream, Can I join you please?
i have been drinking far too much for far too long.
I have reached my ‘rock bottom’ a week ago where I fell over and broke my arm. This was a massive wake up call.

my life is generally pretty good, stressful job, but I cope ok with it.

if you stop drinking now you will be so clear and focused to start your new job.

I cannot drink like I was, I’m going for total abstinence for a long time and then see how I am then

we can do this

Hi thanks for joining! First night no drink for a loooong time for me which is shocking. Even when I broke my ankle after tripping down a spiral staircase while on holiday I didn’t stop! I hope your arm is not too sore!
Tired tonight as we over indulged watching Eurovision. Really have to do better!

Good luck with your new job @Livingthedreamithink

@Meezer2 how’s your arm bearing up? Have they told you what recovery time is for your arm?
xx

Day 1 of not having a drink the night before! £10 for the savings pot! It was a fitful sleep and luckily I am not working today so finally woke at 11 am. Feeling a bit sleepy still but a day off so need to organise a few things and I have the energy and mindset for that! How is everyone else doing?

Thank you for having me!
well done on not drinking last night. When I’ve tried to stop I always find the first month really difficult then it gets easier for me.

Im not really thinking about booze at the moment because my arm is so sore. Back to the fracture clinic tomorrow so I hope it’s healing ok.

How are you getting on today living the dream?

Hi rebellious,
Im pretty sore despite the painkillers, According to the surgeon it’s going to take 3 months to heal which is longer than I expected.

how are you?

Congratulations on your 1st day, That’s a great idea having. Savings pot, I’ll join you with that.

my sleep is terrible too, I’m hoping it gets easier as my arm heals. I’m pretty sure not drinking is contributing to my weird sleeping patterns.

i didn’t drink every night but I’ve always been a very heavy binge drinker, Usually 4 nights a week. I’ve got no self control so once I pop so to speak, I can’t stop. one drink is never enough.

how’s your evening going so far?

Livingthedreamithink · 19/05/2025 20:48

Well currently had dinner, walked the dog, watching terrible soaps and will go for a bath shortly!! What happened with your arm? Did you need surgery? I was supposed to have surgery but more urgent cases came in over night and they’d reset it pretty straight. I didn’t feel a thing as we’d had a lot of food (first holiday after covid so overdid it) then tripped down stairs. New job starts tomorrow. Dreading starting again!

Sounds like a productive evening, very relaxing.

I fell over very drunk, smacked my head too which could have been a lot worse than it is. Had a CT head scan and was told it’s a large heamatoma.

I didn’t feel my elbow until around an hour after I fell. Over night the pain became excruciating and I realised I’d injured it badly.

i went to a and e and they attempted to reduce it back into place, was unsuccessful so had to go to theatre to have it manipulated under GA.
xray tomorrow so I’m hoping it’s still back in place and that no further surgical intervention will be needed.

did you have any long term issues with your ankle?

very best of luck for your first day tomorrow, hope it goes well.

Livingthedreamithink · 19/05/2025 22:02

Ouch! Sounds sore! I was lucky as it healed after 5 weeks because I didn’t need an op in the end. My ankles have always been weak after several sprains! In fact I’d go so far as to say I’ve had much less swelling with my ankle after it got broke! NHS wasn’t going to give me a boot “as it delays healing” and they seemed to begrudge physio!!! I went for private physio in the end and the guy did a good job of manipulating it and massaging it! Physio is important.

id had lots of wine before food and seemed to trip and I bounced a few steps down. We’d been so desperate to get away as my son at the time potentially had been exposed to Covid so we nearly never went (even though a domestic holiday). Did my leg the first day! I didn’t go to a & e for 2 days until my son said it didn’t look good! Was in the waiting room a short time before they said I’d broke it! Scraped my leg, nearly hurt my arm and had minor scuff on my head. I was lucky also! I didn’t drink for oh 2 nights!

anyway day 2! In bath! Winding down and then bed !

Hope you are also doing well rebellious hoping!
