I am on day 6 and thinking listening to podcasts might help me keep going, can anyone recommend any?

Well done on nearly a week!! Just don't fold for today. If you're craving it remember a craving isn't hunger, it doesn't grow, it passes. Just don't drink today, if the craving is still there when you wake up team fresh in the then say to yourself "I'll drink then" (spoiler: you won't!).

Bee Sober
They Think It's All Sober
Sober Dave - One For The Road
Sober Stories from Everyday People
Sober Awkward
Get Sober With Nick
Sobah Sistas
Addicted to Recovery
The Way Out A Sobriety and Recovery Podcast
Menace to Sobriety
Soberoso
Hooked (BBC).

Books:

Sober Diaries
The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober

Lotta Dann's book (can't remember the name, she's Aussie).
Sober on a Drunk Planet
Running With Scissors (Augustan Burroughs)
Sobering by Melissa Rice (the Scouse one from the Hooked pod - very good).
Blackout by Sarah Hepola
Drinking to forget the things I can't remember (something like that).
Diary of an Alcoholic Housewife
The Wine O Clock Myth - Lotta Dann.
Drinking - A Love Story
The Holiday - Marian Keyes
Again, Rachel - Marian Keyes

huge luck!

Thanks for asking the question. I'm on Day 7 and also looking for extra motivation. I'm so scared of getting complacent. I can just imagine telling myself 'just one won't hurt'. But I know it probably would so any extra resources are really helpful. Good luck!

Over The Influence

@LillyPJ congratulations on 7 days. It definitely helps to do more than just not drink to avoid complacency. I know for me just one will most likely turn into two bottles and put me right back to square one.

@PersonIrresponsible thanks for the recommendation. I listened to the first episode last night and a lot of it resonated with me.

One of the Over the Influence podcasters did a lovely book which is great on audible: The Life changing Magic of Quitting Alcohol.

It’s great - very positive. Not drinking alcohol is so brilliant - some quit lit can be focusing on how hard it is and depending on the type of person you are, it can reinforce something that isn’t necessarily true for everyone. No need to white knuckle it when you’re losing nothing. Sometimes you’re just ripe for quitting and having the reminders as to why it’s a fantastic idea is so helpful.

That sounds really interesting to me. I smoked 20 a day for years and years and just couldn't give up. But once I'd learned to look at it as not giving up something but rather that I'd be gaining health, money and freedom from the addiction, I just stopped. That was midway through a packet too. Suddenly it seemed easy to just not smoke. Focussing on the positive is helping me now with the alcohol too so I'll look out for that book. Thanks.

Over the influence and class a people

also alcohol explained on audio book. Brilliant for explaining the science of what alcohol does to your body

mummysquasher · 10/05/2025 07:05

Just wanted to add "Hello someday" podcast to the list.

Also second "Alcohol explained" and "Alcohol explained 2" books. The first few chapters are free to read on the website. Author William Porter pops up on lots of podcasts as well.

I'll be 2 years in July. Best decision I ever made. Good luck.
