Hi,

Just a question does anyone else get like a come down from alcohol from the night before the next day?

I very rarely drink but if I do I always end up feeling really low the next day? I don't get why this happens it's happened for the last two years. I don't get why it affects me now? Could it be an age thing?

I do avoid drinking to be honest because of this.

The booze blues! Very common - alcohol is a depressant.

Hi Ariesburn,
I think this is quite a common thing. I had a few drinks last night and have been feeling low all day and have to remind myself that it's the drink making me feel that way.

I'm always emotional and very tearful the next day. It's really weird.

Alcohol is a depressant. Hangovers aside, it does shit all for your mental health - I used to spend days in a fog of low mood and anxiety. I’ve not had a drink now for nearly nine years and it’s the best thing I ever did.

Hangiexty or hangover blues is a real thing.

I think this is what I will do just not drink any alcohol anymore. I never used to get this.

Yes, and like you, it’s a recent thing as I’ve got older. Had a lovely evening with friends but not worth the shit day that follows (and I don’t even have a hangover so it’s not like it’s buyers remorse, as it were). So awful I think I might just not bother anymore. I’ve been trying many alternatives to alcohol for some time now and I think I can happily give up even the odd occasion I do drink, just for this reason tbh.

Yeah see same here. I've woken up this morning and I just haven't stopped crying and I feel sad. I think I'm going to stop drinking it too. I don't like feeling like this the next day. It's really not nice.

It’s not unusual, it’s science. You are essentially going through withdrawal the next day, or even for 2-3 days after, and feeling low and anxious is part of that. Read ‘Alcohol Explained’ and you’ll understand why.

I'll give this a read.

It’s what helped me decide to stop drinking altogether as once I understood exactly how alcohol works on the body and the mind it made zero sense to keep consuming it. Then it was very easy to stop as I no longer wanted it.

Ariesburn · 02/03/2025 17:19

@wordywitch see I don't have a problem with alcohol I barely drink to be honest but it's just every time I do now well the last 2 years I always feel really low the next day and tearful. I never used to get that it's so weird. It puts me off drinking if honest so I do avoid it now. I may just not drink all together as I don't like feeling like this the next day every-time.

Yes, it’s very normal. It’s why people slide into problem drinking because having a drink the next day cheers you up a bit, gets all those happy chemicals in the brain pumping again, until the next day, and then repeat.
