Fed up with drinking every night

I have been drinking a bottle of wine every night for ages. I am fed up with thinking about wine. Im a single parent and its now more of a habit for me. I have started walking every day minimum of 7k and loving it, just find the evenings so hard.
I am starting a new job 2nd sept, really excited for the change, its going to be a massive change for me and DD, working all year round.
Does anyone have any tips please x

I also recommend reading
Alcohol Explained by William Porter
It's similar to Allen Carrs quit smoking books, whereby it kind of brainwashes you (in a good way)
Sounds like you're almost there as you've recognised it's an issue and you're fed up of it.
Good luck

Really pleased to see you have a few more responses with practical advice and support. Hope you are ok tonight OP.

I drank about the same for a long time, I am 3 years sober now. I read a lot of quit lit, listened to a lot of podcasts, spent a lot of time on social media sober communities!

in the early days I couldn’t envisage watching tv without a drink as I felt it would be boring. I sat in the kitchen and did activities and crafts. I drank AF drinks. Now I can watch tv without a drink just fine. Drinking isn’t a hobby, it is itself boring. I don’t bother with AF drinks now either.

good luck, you won’t regret it

There are two ways you can go about this - either starting by having one or two AF nights a week (make it the same night each week so you don’t have to make a decision each week) or cut back on the amount gradually.
If you want to reduce, pour a glass out of the bottle before you start drinking. It feels a waste but it’s just as wasteful drinking more than you want to. I sometimes freeze a glass of red and use it in a casserole or spag Bol at a later date.

The crochet is a great tool to keep you focused and distracted. Going to bed early helps too - although sleep can take a while to settle.

If you want to increase your exercise, could you workout or walk in the morning, so you are more tired in the evening (aka drinking time)?

Why would you dredge up a post from over a year ago for that considered comment?
