Has anyone tried one of the hypnotherapy apps for alcohol use, and did it work?

Apps no, but I did do hypnotherapy for problem drinking years ago. It was a programme (on CD, at the time). I did find it helped a lot. And I did quit for a few months. The thing is that it's only one tool in the toolbox. At the time, I did the hypnotherapy, which did minimise any cravings I had and made it easier to not drink, but I didn't change my lifestyle or my social circle and I didn't engage any other support (like other sober people). So eventually, I stopped doing the hypnotherapy and I started drinking again because I didn't know anyone else who didn't drink.

I have used hypnotherapy for other things in the past though and found it really effective. I would just use a decent proper programme, either a trained hypnotherapist or something that has some scientific foundation to it. Hypnotherapy itself has a strong evidence base around it, but not everything that you see marketed as 'hypnotherapy' is actually therapeutic and not just some AI generated gimmick.
