Feel great so why do I want a wine?

On day 4 of no booze & can already feel positive affects. I felt much more motivated at work today and im sleeping better.

And yet all I can think about this evening is a glass of wine. Its so irrational! I feel good and I know ill drink a bottle if I have a glass and feel like crap. But I'm finding it so hard to think of anything else.

This craving WILL pass if you let it. Have you got something else you can drink instead? Can you go out for 10 minutes?

Because it's an addiction. I think this is a pretty good warning that you need to quit drinking for good. Craving alcohol and not being able to stop thinking about it obviously isn't healthy. Well done for taking positive steps, keep distracting yourself whenever you feel you want a drink.

Your brain is trying to look after you. It’s trying to avoid the discomfort by getting you to do the usual thing you to do sooth yourself. I often talk to my brain - I know it sounds mad, but I think to myself “it’s ok brain, we’re safe, we’re just trying something new”

Agree with this. People talk about dealing with stress or trauma through drinking but it is equally there as a learned reaction to positive feelings as well. I feel amazing, woo hoo! = great! Let’s celebrate with a drink!

And yet we go off and celebrate with the one thing we know will make us feel awful and it’ll all be gone. Does it help you to play it forward? See how tomorrow looks with the tired eyes, thumping head and total inability to focus on anything? Hopefully you made it through this evening okay.

Thank you. These messages helped. I'm going to bed only having drunk herbal tea and so pleased about it x
