Kidneys

I had some blood tests with slightly worrying renal tests. Low gfr and high potassium. Also, high ish mcv rate. There are a lot of threads about liver but not so much about the kidneys. I am quite sure this is due to fairly heavy alcohol use in the past although I am significantly better now and thinking now to stop entirely. I know the kidneys do not repair like the liver but does anyone have any positive news of these issues slowing after reducing / stopping drinking please? Thank you

Hi there . Well done on reducing . I drank heavily for over 25 years and had kidney and liver damage resulting in cirrhosis. I was very ill and ended up in intensive care. I stopped drinking . My kidneys which had hurt SO much calmed down within a couple of months and my liver although damaged , stabilised and l have been happily sober for over 16 years and am very healthy. Honestly the best thing you can do is stay engaged with your medical services and stop drinking. I did it through AA but there are other ways available. Good luck .
