Anyone else on Day one?? Or maybe a few days in and still going?
I'm starting today , after many failed attempts as usual but nearly 40, after years of daily drinking , I need to stop !

Well done OP.

I’m not a daily drinker and not stopping for good, but drink way too often and too much and am doing dry January. The first 10 says were hard, now it’s much easier.

Do you have a way of avoiding the usual triggers? And do you have something positive you could be doing instead, so you can look forward to gaining something rather than losing it? Eg, exercise classes planned for the evenings?

Ya i think I need to change up the evenings , maybe an exercise class . Will definitely look into that tomorrow. For now I got past the 5pm urge to drink anyway . So fingers crossed for day 2 !

How are you doing so far?

I'm not a daily drinker but tried to cut down to one day a week (instead of 3 days) because it affects my sleep and I'm fed up of the hangxiety after a big night of drinking. If I'm just at home on a Saturday night, say, I can have half a bottle and stop (husband shares the bottle) but if I'm out I feel like I've started now so would look weird moving onto soft drinks (or sometimes just don't want to stop as I'm having fun) and then regret it the next day. I realised choosing which one day I'll drink was taking up too much headspace, so am just going to do a detox 'dry February' instead as it takes away the shall I, shan't I aspect.

So in effect today is my Day 1 because I wouldn't usually drink in the week anyway, but will notice / miss it come Friday or Saturday night when I would usually have a few glasses of vino. I just want to reset and enjoy socialising without a drink and enjoy the clear head the next day, so am going to order some AF rose Prosecco and nice posh juices to have instead, which will feel like a treat. I don't actually like the feeling of being tipsy (and definitely not drunk), it's the treat aspect of it.

So well done for starting and I'm here with solidarity.

Let's use this and other threads on the board to keep going when we tell ourselves (or other people do) that we are being boring and oh just have one, it's better than what you were drinking before etc. Nope, we can do this!!
