Alcoholism as a disease

I’ve read a couple of books about reducing/quitting alcohol. Both have touched on the topic of alcoholism not being a disease and we are ‘othering’ people by believing this.
Does anyone have any recommendations for reading or podcasts that talk about this further?
Ive just read Adrian Chiles book and the bit that resonated is when he talks about someone who might only smoke 5 a day but we’d still say these people are addicted. But we don’t think the same way about people who drink a bit, ie less than the stereotypical alcoholic.

I don’t ascribe to the disease model of alcoholism either. It’s all just addiction. Not sure what books you have read but a few of the ones I am a fan of take this view - eg Alcohol explained, Jason Vale’s book

Alcohol explained was the other one I read. Will try Jason Vale next thanks.

Hey @Cubbysnowdog I found this one an interesting read too, the author looks at how the brain is wired in addiction and it made a lot of sense to me

Alcohol Use Disorder is recognised in the DSM as a form of mental illness. Make of that what you will.

However, to a PP - I've just ordered that book after reading your post, I'm a recovering alcoholic and it looks interesting!

@VoldemortsKitten I should've tagged you! 😅😅

Oh brill @BeautyGoesToBenidorm I hope you enjoy. It really resonated a lot with me! Made a lot of sense after reading This Naked Mind too.
