Day 1 - getting my life back.

I need to stop drinking. It started out as a glass or two on the weekend and has become every night.
I have blackouts, horrendous arguments with my now ex partner and culminating in a DV situation and I'm damaging my mental health. My children often spend the evening on devices whilst I'm sitting in the kitchen drinking.
I'm always going to stop tomorrow or after the holiday or any other reason to push it down the road.
My relationship with alcoholic ex is over. Today is the day to reclaim my life.

I plan to start by being dry for the rest of September as my first challenge.
Anyone else in a similar situation?

I'm.sending u a message of support. I am.not in the same position as you, ad I've never been a drinker, my crutch is food. I think it will have Bern garden not to drink.when I have bern round someone who does drink. Can u put the money u would normally spend on drink.in a jar and spend on something else,e.g. a facial or a cinema visit with your children? Good luck OP. One day at a time. 🏆

Hard not garden. Sorry

How are you doing OP?

Yes, I was indeed in the same boat as you, in fact most likely steering the bloody thing.

just celebrated my 1000 days, previously had been drinking a bottle of wine per night, MH in the absolute gutter, angry and anxious all the time, miserable. It’s no life.

You can do it, I know it’s been a while since you’ve posted - and slips happen (if indeed they did I mean!), but I hope you’ve still got the mindset to carry on..!

xx

Maybe not the same as you, but I used to become very belligerent when I'd been drinking. I could see myself picking arguments but felt helpless. I tried to change my drinking countless times but always failed. I know now why - I was trying to solve things by changing the action (ie not having the drink) rather then figuring out why I was drinking.

So if you're looking for a tip to start that's what I'd suggest.

Start by understanding why you drink. Do you know? If not, can you guess? Then test that guess. Here's what I see over and over about drinking. We drink to get rid of a feeling we currently have that don't want (eg boredom, frustration) or because we are seeking an emotion we don't currently have (eg excitement, relaxation). So that's where I'd start. When you drink, what emotion are you trying to push away or seek?

I can help with this. Message me if you want to learn more.

Also I'm running a challenge in March - see other MN thread about ditching the wine witch. It starts on Friday.
