Hello. As the title suggests, I am not a youngster anymore and need to start looking after myself. Primarily by significantly reducing my white wine consumption.
Only problem is that I don't know how.
My whole day looks forward to sipping gorgeous cold white wine in the evening.

I’m in a similar boat, actually starting to feel pretty rubbish which I think is due to age and the fact that post covid my booze consumption went up. You don’t actually have to drink tomorrow you know that. Enjoy the chats and company, have sobering wise cold and refreshing. Or just make the change that you don’t open a second bottle. You can do this. I’ve cut back so much in the last year.

Learn about what alcohol is actually doing to your body, there is so much sober lit. I liked the Adam Huberman session on alcohol and the Sober Awkward podcast. So you learn it's not relaxing you, it's sedating you and blunting your feelings. And it's setting up the craving for the next day. Go buy a beautiful fancy lemonade, put ice cubes in the freezer. Tonight enjoy and ice cold lemonade, complete with lemon slices and fancy straw. Do something relaxing that you enjoy - get a magazine, a book, run a bath, rent a movie etc. Have a lovely relaxing evening and use it as an experiment, notice how you're feeling, the resistance you're experiencing, etc. Also pay attention to how you feel in the morning - don't just remember the sacrifice, pay attention to the benefit also!

Great advice on here

If I eat chocolate or something sweet at the time I usually have my first drink it lessens the craving a bit.

Annie Grace 30 Day Challenge. It took me from a drinker whose drinking was problematic to 3 years sober next week.

Sorry about the terrible grammar - it’s early!

Jujubes5 · 06/08/2023 07:16

Also it isn't really that the chilled wine tastes so good - it's that the alcohol zaps your brain and makes you feel good/happy - lots of things taste good but you don't feel the 'need' for them as they don't have mind altering ingredients.

How about buying yourself this as a birthday present? Give yourself 30 days free of wine for your birthday and see how you feel and look in 30 days time
