Worried I've done damage to my liver

I have really bad health anxiety so I'm sorry if this post is annoying to anyone but I recently went on a trip of a lifetime for 5 weeks visiting lots of different countries.
It was A big group of us and we really enjoyed ourselves sipping cocktails by the beaches in the daytimes and enjoying several glasses of wine of a night time. This was most days except one or two days of travelling where we didn’t drink.
I’m now really worried I’ve caused some liver cirrhosis from drinking like that 😩
I have no symptoms ie yellow skin or eyes or anything.
I’m having a detox now and not drinking any alcohol for a few weeks. But will I have caused damage already? 😩
I'm having a private liver function test to hopefully put my mind at ease.

The liver is amazing at self repair. Its unlikely you'd have done damage over such a short period of time. Just do what you've been doing and allow it some recovery time.

You will be absolutely fine. Several drinks a night for a number of weeks on holiday will not cause any permanent liver damage. Before I gave up, I was drinking 2-3 bottles of wine a day for about a year and still a lot most days before that. I have no liver damage. The liver is thankfully incredibly resilient. But it does sound like you are really anxious, so make sure to take care of your emotional health as well as you’re now taking care of your physical health.

A short trip won't have caused liver damage. Please don't worry.

dancinginthesky · 07/06/2023 13:01

You'd need to have continued after the trip really to do much. Long term overuse yes but one trip no

Thebigblueballoon · 07/06/2023 13:04

There is absolutely no chance you’ve done serious damage to your liver within that period of time and consuming that much alcohol. No chance.
It’s possible to drink large quantities for literally years and not irreversibly damage your liver. (NOT recommended, and it depends on the individual.)

It might be a good idea to seek CBT for your health anxiety, or other therapy generally because you have clearly got into a mindset where you are guilt tripping yourself about having enjoyed yourself. It would be a real shame to let this spoil the memory of what sounds like a lovely trip.

I drank going on five bottles of wine a week for the best part of two decades and my liver is fine. The liver is amazing at regenerating itself and five weeks is nothing so don't worry 💐.

Thanks for the replies I appreciate it.
I had my liver function test results back today, all normal.
Although I'm a tad worried about the GGT being 35 😕

A bit of a personal question, but are you overweight? Your GGT could be high because of fatty liver (but non alcohol related)

CrystalQueen87 · 12/06/2023 10:02

Yes I am overweight.
