Struggling

I gave up alcohol three years ago this March. I'm really struggling with giving up. I used to like drinking and the thought of never drinking again feels boring. I gave up after I drank two bottles of wine, woke up the next day and vomited.

I used to drink a bottle of wine a week which doesn't sound much but I drank it all at once. I'm also one of those people who can't stop once they've started. When I drink too much I vomit which is embarrassing.

I don't want to join but am wondering how other people have managed. It's been three years now and I feel better for not drinking but am struggling with this being it. Never drinking again. No red wine and a film, or pizza and beer or gin and tonic on a warm summer's day.

I'm sorry that you feel this way @namechange1032 😔 Try to focus on all of the positives of not drinking alcohol. Honestly, I wish I was where you are now but I'm a long wat off.

I've downloaded the dryy app, which is a community of people who are either alcohol free or trying to be. You might find that connecting with other like minded people helps?

Well done on what you have achieved so far.

Thanks for your reply. I'll take a look at the app. I just miss drinking but feel better for not drinking but it's difficult to remember why I stopped drinking sometimes.

What I did was work on myself and make amends and try to do the next right thing and try to help people

Not sure I have many words of wisdom, I was a bottle of wine a day drinker and I think in some ways it’s easier because I know I was drinking at ridiculous levels and can’t control it. I don’t miss drinking though, I just don’t think about alcohol being any part of my life at all. Have you read any quit lit? That might help.

0% corona with a wedge of lime in the top is delicious and it really makes me feel like I’ve had a drink. 3 years is a brilliant achievement. I managed 12 months no alcohol 2103 to 2104. Like you I find it hard to stop if I start. I have weeks and months no alcohol but then give in and binge for weeks and months. I’m just starting a 4 month no alcohol stint and I am determined not to drink until I go on holiday on August. I struggle. 0% corona is the best I’ve tried my husband likes the 0% Guinness as do I and I tried the 0% tanquery gin last night which is okay but tbh I prefer fentimans gin in its own.
