Damage to teeth: dry mouth, sugar and acidity and makes proper oral hygiene more difficult. Bad breath.
Skin: thread veins, blotchy, dehydrated, ages you, red faced, doughy bloated face, eyes sunk in with darkness, lips dry and chapped.
Hair and nails: fragile, weak, very dry and frizzy, greasy scalp from sweats but dry ends.

Body smell: perfume doesn't smell nice on. Sweaty.

Glazed over eyes with a yellow tinge. Lifeless, dead fish eyes.

Paranoia, guilt, beer fear, hanging feeling of shame but you don't even remember what about and too scared to ask if it did happen.

Damage to property from knocking them over or wetting yourself. Feeling like an epic loser. Can trigger suicidal feelings in some people. Can trigger reckless behaviour in some people. Can lead to prison or criminal record preventing you from certain jobs or travelling to the US for example.

You hate looking in the mirror, so ashamed. You want to get out of your own skin and disappear from everyone who knows you and saw you drunk. You feel you can't trust yourself or your brain, your memories, your judgment. You feel worthless and hopeless.

Went to one of my favourite people’s birthday party last night, I didn’t drink.. this is a new thing for me, but determined to stop……normally I would have drunk a lot.
This morning I have no regrets,
no headache
no pending sense of doom
no anxiety or texting said friend to check i wasn’t a dick
I got home safely
I woke up tired but no need to spend the day in bed

i'm realising what a massive waste of time it is.
whist you're drinking & whilst you're hungover.

hours & days lost to it all.

when i don't drink I'm so much more productive, filling those lost hours with ticking things off my list instead of sitting around drinking.

These are brilliant. Thank you

I started this thread to help a friend who wants to give up alcohol but is really struggling. I feel for her because years ago I used to drink some wine to numb myself so I kind of understand

What do you all drink instead of alcohol?

What about rock shandy?

Or ginger ale, we get a sugar free version.

Tbh there are a lot of non alcoholic options. But it is a step in the change to cut out alcohol that can be used as an excuse. 'Oh what can I drink now, there is nothing I can drink.'

For Christmas I made punch. Fruit juice with ginger ale and raspberries / blueberries added. Even those people who do drink alcohol asked for refills.

Alcohol shrinks your world .
Can drive if you drink ,public transport can be unreliable and taxis cost a fortune .
Stay sober ,drive anywhere you like 😁

The mood swings

The hangover that never goes away

Terrible skin, hair and teeth

The headaches

The anger

Catastrophic Liver damage

Bad breath

That flushed look

The expense

The health issues

The constant daze of disconnection from the world around you

The regret

(Dad used to be a heavy drinker as was an old friend so I’ve seen all of this first hand)
