Cutting waaaaaaay down

Decided to overhaul my lifestyle as I've definitely been a problem drinker the last couple of years and adding into that smoking on the odd occasion. I have 2 young children and want to make sure im not cutting my life short for them. So my question: is there any advice for the day to day reaching for the bottle? I've become reliant on it way too much and need distraction techniques. I started the gym again and have been enjoying that; that helps but the days I don't go im very tempted so end up with a glass of wine. Any advice appreciated. I've done great over Xmas and actually not drank anything but probably because I had a big week the week before so made it easier, thanks

Well done on giving it a go. Personally, I find not having alcohol in the house helps me. I haven’t drank more than a few glasses of wine a year in a long time because I previously had a very bad relationship with booze. Having to go out of my way to actually buy it makes me think twice. Other than that it’s just about distraction in the early days.

I needed to cut down, partly because I started a weight loss programme but also because I was drinking too much. However, I didn’t want to stop completely so I switched to adding soda to wine. So instead of a large glass of wine, I now have a small (125ml) and add around the same amount of soda water. I find because of the fizz in the soda, I usually only have 2, so the equivalent of one large glass.

Would that work for you? I can’t suggest anything else if you don’t drink white wine as I rarely drink spirits and never drink red wine.

You're right and that's a simple solution really. Doesn't help I got a shit load left for Christmas haha. But also I kind of want to make sure I can not reach for it when it's there if that makes sense. But for the first few months maybe that's the way to go. Thanks for replying

That's a good idea too, as I find I drink so fast it's ridiculous so that's a good idea for when I let myself have one, to make sure it's actually only half a drink . Thank you
