Has anyone tried doing one year alcohol free?

I'm thinking of doing this in 2023. I don't drink loads and loads and I don't drink everyday Yadda Yadda...

BUT, when I do drink it is never just one. It is never more than say 4 and that would be a big event like at a wedding or night out. At home I'd have 2-3 glasses of wine maybe twice a week.

Anyway, I am approaching 40 and I have little kids and a term time job. I'm lacking in energy and I'm not looking my best. I definitely do more exercise when I don't drink at all and my skin looks better and I sleep better. So I'm becoming "sober curious" I suppose.

I'm going to have a few drinks over Christmas and NYE (mainly because I've bought some Christmas booze already), but then I want to try and do one year off.

Does anyone fancy joining me on here?

Can I join too please? 🙋🏼‍♀️ I did 8 months late 2020 to summer 2021 then for some reason started again and have been on and off ever since, feel pretty disgusting after drinking almost solidly for past 5 days and can tell my tolerance is high as never really drunk, just mildly buzzed Hmm I feel puffy, bloated, tired and just so annoyed with myself as have young children and don't feel at my best to be the best mum to them. We should be going out having a nice walk and blowing the cobwebs away but instead I'm back in PJs on the couch as so tired. I need to dive into quit lit again and all my 'whys'- fantastic kids, lovely husband, vanity and health are high up there! Also spent lots of money past couple of months on drinking when out which is such a waste of money. I'm also nearly 40 and want to head into the next decade looking and feeling my best.

Solidarity to everyone here, and looking forward to checking in. It starts today with me, not waiting until the New Year!

I‘ve drank nearly every day this month and I’m definitely ready for the challenge! I’ve already told my family about it as well so I can’t back out again. 😬

Lovetotravel123 · 27/12/2022 10:59

I did this because I was inspired by Andy Ramage on the Dr Chatterjee podcast. I have now been sober for 3 years and no going back. Makes life sooo much easier.

Welcome @SerialMover and @Metalhead

I did this.

Currently 2.5 years alcohol free! Life changing.

I’m annoyed at the OYNB website though. It was free when I signed up, there were lots of helpful motivational posters on the threads I was on. then, overnight, it kicked us all out. It blocked our log ins and was now only fee paying! I thought it a terrible thing to do to existing users. There were some people on there really in need of support. God knows what happened to them and how it affected their attempts to go AF.

Good luck, you won’t regret it!

I'd like to join in please I've done a few months before and looked & felt much better. Starting January 1st 🥇

blondie87 · 27/12/2022 13:17

I’m starting the challenge on Jan 1st and actually really looking forward to it. Not been excessive over Christmas but have had a drink or two most days and even that amount I feel the next day!

DancingSober · 27/12/2022 16:30

Welcome @nancydroo and @blondie87

Happy NYE all!

Challenge starts tomorrow 🥳

I will make the new thread today and will attempt to tag anyone who has said they want to join.

I will also post the link in here though as there's always a chance my tagging might go awry.

TooSunny · 31/12/2022 11:11

I’d like to join, please!

I started drinking more during lockdown, and carried on long after. I put on around 3 stone in that time, which I know is from the wine.

I haven’t had a drink for 9 days now. I had an AF Christmas and it’s been lovely. I’d really like to continue being AF!

I'd like to join too please.
Previously done 12 months AF and felt so much better for it. The want to go AF is there but struggling with the motivation.
