Alcohol replacement ideas

About to go completely teetotal for initially 7 weeks to prove that alcohol isn't our master but our little occasionally fun server because I have made a bet with friends that I can last more than a week. Any suggested legal alternatives to the aqua vita would be helpful.

Tonic water
Sparkling water
Alcohol free lager
San Pellegrino
Herbal tea (not fruity shit but lovely Yogi Tea blends)

Go to bed early to resist nighttime drinking
herbal tea
grapefruit and soda is quite bitter and a bit like a G&T
Good Luck

I did Lent which is 6 weeks and doing November.

I found from Lent Becks Blue and M&S Rose were the closest match to alcoholic taste.
I also like a Seabreeze zero which is cranberry and grapefruit. I don’t like sweet drinks so this is quite good.
Previous years I went for Perrier water as it feels healthier but also a bit decedent. It has the most effervescence so the mouth feel is good. Unfortunately I can’t find it in glass bottles anymore and generally seems harder to get hold off.

I find a tonic water/bitter lemon combo a good one when I want something a bit nice but non-alcoholic

Thanks so much to all of you for your help, I absolutely agree with the 'dry' rather than sweet approach to drinks. Booze really is a beast and although it's only been a few days I've already lost my sense of humour, or maybe have started to realise I never had one...

If you're usually a gin drinker try just drinking the flavoured tonics with some ice and sliced orange or berries in it.

Fever tree Mediterranean, elderflower and the pink one are nice - Aldi do dupes that are pretty much identical.

Kopparberg alcohol free ciders taste exactly like the alcoholic one too, albeit these are quite sweet.

scotspancake86 · 02/11/2022 13:23

Have you tried the Trip drinks? They have cbd oil in them, and whilst they are not psychoactive they do make you feel relaxed, rather like having half a glass of wine. They taste nice too and only 15 calls!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 02/11/2022 20:53

Another vote for fevertree. I can't really tell it doesn't have the gin in it?

I'm also a big fan of appletise at around tea time - I think it's the combination of the sugar, the tase and the rehydration plus the fact it comes in such a dinky can it feels like a treat!

Put money you would have spent on wine/booze somewhere visual (either electronically or physically) and treat yourself to something nice with the cash at the end of the week/month.

I used to like

AF beers
AF fruit cider
Martini vibrante and tonic
some AF sparkling wines.

i am 14 months sober now and barely bother with AF alternatives now, I only drink water, squash, tea and coffee

Hashtagihearya · 03/11/2022 14:46

I used to like appletiser too but it can be very sweet but omg so yummy!
I am also trying not to drink so thanks for this thread.
I asked someone somewhere if they had tried Wednesday domaine or something keeps popping up on a newsfeed and the way the dealcoholise them is different to other AF drinks but it's expensive so don't want to be ordering and or doesn't get drunk!
I'm going to try a bitter lemon/soda....
I also have Corona zero but in this weather doesn't look appetising to me.

Ragwort · 03/11/2022 14:48

I quite like sparkling Elderflower.

bobtheveryoldBuilder · 03/11/2022 14:56

Lucky saint beers. They are really good and after a few days they taste like the real thing

maddy68 · 03/11/2022 14:57

I always have tonic water. I ask for it in a gin glass with all the trimmings so it feels like a special drink
