Your biggest drinking challenge

If you could wave a magic wand and have your biggest drinking challenge disappear, what would it be?

...DH on the sofa on a Saturday night....
So boring but so warm and cosy.
He wants to talk to me and says it"s fine if I don't drink but then gets merry and I'm expected to nod and smile and input.
Can't read a book or watch a film as he just wants to play shitty old records and shoot the breeze.

I’ve conquered all mine, nearly 14 months sober. No magic wand required. Just the work to change the mindset on drinking.

Stress!!!! And feeling alone!
I have done sober in the pub many times, sober all inclusive holiday, sober grief, sober free bar at event etc but what triggers me most is feeling like I need the relief :(
I am four months in though, still going strong!

well done on 4 months. That association of alcohol as a stress reliever, crutch, reward, treat, whatever….it disappears with time

My biggest drinking challenge is definitely knowing that thinking "oh I will have a couple of small glasses" on a weekday and then finish a bottle of wine. Bizarrely on a Friday evening I happily drink a half bottle. So I am determined now, if I don't want to potentially drink a whole bottle of wine to just not have any.
The glass of wine I fine hardest to give up is the one I have during making Sunday roast and the one with it, in the colder months.
And an ice cold wine spritzer in summer.

@frozendaisy Drinking while cooking is a hard-wired association for many (I can relate to this back in the day!), so what I'd offer is to ask yourself why it's the hardest to give up? What comes up for you?
And with regard to weekday/weekend drinking this is a really common thing I work with people on... wanting to cut back during the week but still "be allowed" to drink at the weekend. So if this is what you want ask yourself what makes the weekday so different for you than Friday evening? What is it about Friday that makes half a bottle so allowable? The more curious you get about this the more you'll learn about your motivations ... Happy to answer questions

The enjoyment on Friday evening is the not early wake up Saturday now kids older and lie in a bit. So if there are no pressing plans the mornings are chilled, can have coffee, make brunch, read the papers.
And the glass of red with roast, mainly it just pairs so well, the scents, flavours, the batten down the weekend hatch, bags packed, homework done, uniforms ready. Again once everything is done it's a no rush time to enjoy a bit of a wind down and enjoy a decent glass of wine. It's not swigging glass after glass.
I just want to stop the glass on a weekday that turns into a bottle, we stay up too late, watch too much great, but shallow TV, and the following day is hard. And we have cut down during the week. Just a final push to eliminate it all together.
