Has anyone done SMART recovery?

I'm going to start this next week.

Ironically I drink less than I ever have (but still too much) and I can go a month or three with no alcohol but as soon as something stressful occurs I turn to wine again and then it goes on for a few weeks and then I stop ad nauseam.

So I need tools to cope with emotions instead of turning to vino and from what I can see, SMART is good for this.

However their website is really hard to navigate.

How do I do the 'programme'? Is it within the meetings or is it separate?
How does it work if the meetings are full of people at different stages of the programme?

Ive emailed to ask them - no answer.

I called the number provided and it doesn't work either.

Any knowledge out there?

Thank you.

My husband is doing this. They have zoom links on their website and you can simply join one. There are also face to face meetings some days. You simply turn up in the location closest to you .

My work do some and while I’m not directly involved, I’ve sat in on a few. They may vary but are generally run by people in recovery. There’s a kind of check in when everyone says how they’ve been, no pressure to say anything, then whoever is leading selects one of the tools to talk about more. It’ll usually tie into a topic that’s come up in the check in. Pretty informal and friendly.
See if you can find them on Facebook as the ones I know of put the most up to date info there.

How do I access/do the programme they talk about? It uses CBT, how do I do this?

I believe it's broken down into three sections?

Thanks, does your husband do zoom meetings separately to the 'programme' that SMART stands for? I just can't quite figure out how it works and feel like I'm missing a beat.

My understanding is that the meetings are smart recovery. It is very similar to AA ,but does but have a religious/spiritual slant.

Just buy the workbook and join the training website. The online meeting facilitators are good, but the attendees include many who are not successful in abstaining which is not particularly helpful.

Thanks for this. I was looking at the training and it was referring to facilitator training, which confused the heck out of me.

I don't want to facilitate meetings, I just want to learn the tools to cope with emotions rather than turning to wine to numb them.

Does the training teach me how to do that? Or does it teach me to teach others how to do that?

I didn't know there was a book, I will look on Amazon now!

I just ordered the books.

I might as well give it a bash in all directions and make this as easy as I possibly can because I know it's anything but easy! 😁
