Treatment for alcohol misuse

I was just reading on the NHS website about various treatments for alcohol misuse and wondering if anyone has any experience of this? Not CBT or group support, but the tablets?

I haven’t had tablets specifically for alcohol misuse (you’re talking about Antabuse I think?) - but I actually have pregabalin which is officially for generalized anxiety disorder but I believe it is a wonder drug to stop the desire to drink due to its instant calming effect (like alcohol but without losing any self control). It’s also non-addictive and very difficult to abuse.

Maybe something to talk to the doctor about if there is any link between your drinking and anxiety (and you don’t have an urgent need to detox / withdraw safely).

Me again! Actually I just looked at the NHS website and see the tablets you’re talking about. Pregabalin that I am on seems to have a similar mechanism of action to the acamprosate (due to its targeting of GABA levels) - in which case I would swear by it if you can achieve abstinence.
