Alcohol misuse and travel insurance

I’m struggling to find the information I need online so was hoping someone here might have experience.

I’ve been trying to arrange travel insurance for a relative, and have a number of medical conditions to declare on their behalf, but I’m running into issues re how to declare a condition related to alcohol misuse.

One insurance company said (over the phone) that they won’t insure someone with Wernicke’s encephalopathy who has been treated in the last three years. However, in every other search I’m doing online, this doesn’t appear in the list of medical conditions I can add. I’ve tried searching by alcohol, psychological issue etc and nothing is coming up.

this individual ended up in hospital 2.5 years ago due to a folate deficiency caused by WE and a slow descent into this situation after too many years of enjoying a bottle of wine a day.

They completely stopped drinking at that point and there has been no other issues but they still attend a memory clinic as there is some memory loss.

can anyone help with how best to deal with this for the purposes of travel insurance? How do you declare this?

thanks
