Hi all. NC for this but usually more of a lurker anyway on mumsnet. I used to drink heavily every weekend for years. I have significantly cut down my drinking over the past year but recently had a few blow outs which resulted in difficulties with family and now I want to stop altogether. I can go for weeks/months without a drink but once I have one I have no control and cannot moderate. I would like to go to meetings because sometimes I do feel the urge to drink and it would be good to talk but not really sure if I would be suitable for meetings as I do not feel like an alcoholic but that I have more of a moderation issue? Just wondered if anyone here has been to meetings would know more. Thanks.

You qualify Wink
AA is amazing. I’m 11-12? years sober and couldn’t have don’t it with the rooms. I’ve met some friends for life, a handful of twats and honestly couldn’t be happier.

The reasons why moderation doesn't work is explored in the book Alcohol Explained by William Porter which I listened to on Audible so was a kind of presence. Good luck on finding your key to an AF life and all its benefits.

You could try SMART recovery online meetings if unsure about in person meetings.

Thanks everyone, I will give that book a listen on audible. I think I might try an online meeting first as a bit nervous.
