3 weeks sober - need advice

I’ve not had a drink for 3 weeks but I’m still having cravings. What have people ‘replaced’ alcohol with? At the moment I’m drinking coffee but not sure that’s a long term solution. I don’t like any of the elderflower or cordial type things.

Well done!

I found that drinking a strongly brewed mint or liquorice tea around 8.30/9pm took away the "taste" for wine. The flavour of the tea was strong enough to satisfy whatever longing I had for the flavour of wine, if that makes sense

Thanks - I’ll try that. But what about social events? I feel silly asking for tea or coffee at a ‘do’. I wish I’d quit during lockdown!!

Yes that is trickier! I sometimes will stick to sparkling water, or a 0% beer

Perriwinkles · 15/09/2021 22:01

Yeah I like alcohol-free beer a lot

NaToth · 16/09/2021 22:20

I quite like ginger ale and soda; cold, fizzy and not too sweet.

LOVEMEIMNORMAL · 16/09/2021 22:29

I drink tonic or sparkling water usually, don't like sweet drinks. You could try alcohol free beer or wine?

CalmDownBoris72 · 16/09/2021 22:33

Elderflower cordial with fizzy water, ice and a slice of lemon for me.

The only advice I can give is to stay busy, avoid situations where you will be tempted and have a friend you can call to talk you down when it gets hard. I’m on day 25.

Hi! Well done on starting your journey and I was 1 month alcohol free as of yesterday. The first few days / week I thought of just drinking soft drinks, shloer etc but really it wasn't going to keep me happy. Since then I have delved into the work of non alcoholic drinks and honestly I've been so impressed so far. I've tried Gordon's 0% gin and Clean G "gin"- both amazing- the Gordon's one I think better and cheaper too! Lots of tasty NA beers and the rose nozecco I have been loving- and it's only about £2.75! I went out to an outdoor concert with friends on Saturday night and it was bring your own drink. I had 4 cans of non alcoholic gin and tonic and 3 NA beers- never been so hydrated after a night out in my life 🤣🤣🤣 check out your local supermarket - depending on the size of it, they should have a good selection of NA stuff. I was so pleasantly surprised to notice the big section in my local morrisons.
