Just want to introduce myself to others who are AF, or trying to be.

I have a thread on AIBU (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4294886-To-think-Ill-never-get-a-handle-on-my-alcohol-consumption) and received amazing support. It was suggested I started posting here.

So, I bit the bullet and attended my first AA meeting. Glad I went but I'm unsure if it's for me long term. Im still quite conflicted and don't know how I feel about identifying as an alcoholic... I aspire to be an ex-drinker! But if I'm being honest, I have FOMO about abstaining forever. Daft, I know.

How have others found AA? Has it helped? Has it been something you have used for a while or is it a life long commitment?

Well done OP. How did the meeting go? I did comment on your thread on aibu but have changed my name since.
Honestly once you get a few weeks AF under your belt you'll feel great. Not suggesting it is easy but you sound determined and that's the best way to be at this stage.
Keep going!

Like you, I wasn't sure AA was for me - ironically it felt like too big of a commitment! I attended a few meetings but that was all.

The thought of never having another drink was overwhelming for me in the early days and someone said to me that if you think about it you only have to say no to the first drink each time. I found that thought helpful.

I also didn't, and almost 9 years down the line, relate to the term alcoholic and couldn't get my head round that being me. I haven't really felt the need to label it (although it was awkward when a work colleague asked me if I had stopped drinking because I was an alcoholic Blush) Even now I feel I would shy away from describing myself that way.

Good luck with your path x
