I think I need help. How do you know?

OP posts:
FusionChefGeoff · 27/04/2021 23:07

Generally when you ask that question it means you need help.

People who drink normally never think that.

Have you tried to stop / promised yourself this was the last time and yet found yourself drinking again the same day or very soon after?

If you want to stop / cut down but can't is usually a very good sign that you need help.

needjhelp · 09/05/2021 19:47

I'm ashamed to say how much I've been drinking. And how often.
I feel like I can't think anymore and like I'm losing it. Today I couldn't stop shaking at work and after work I went to buy a bottle of wine. I'm about half way through and don't feel ok.

Op just tell us. You will get great advice on here but people do need to know how much you are drinking. Makes a, world if difference medically.

needjhelp · 09/05/2021 20:00

Seems ive had on average a litre of spirits a week and 1-3 bottles (usually one, honestly!) bottles wine and 2-3 beers a week. This has been for about a month.

needjhelp · 09/05/2021 20:00

Oh and two nights out in that time which entailed a lot of rum - maybe 35cl per night

OP posts:
needjhelp · 09/05/2021 20:37

Am I beyond help?

OP posts:
Getafuckinggripman · 09/05/2021 20:39

Bumping for you OP and you're not beyond help! I posted a thread similar to yours very recently... you're not alone in your struggles xx

FusionChefGeoff · 09/05/2021 21:57

Do you want to stop?

Is it causing problems in your work or personal life?

Do you binge those quantities in a few nights or are you compactly topping up?

FusionChefGeoff · 09/05/2021 21:58

There is lots of help out there - I'm a member of AA and the zoom meetings are amazing.

needjhelp · 10/05/2021 20:39

I just feel like I've lost it. Very stressful situation with my best friend and very stressful job and stressful home life. Not excusing just i don't know how I got here. It's only been the last month this bad but I feel like I'm losing the plot, like I'm going to lose everything

OP posts:
Getafuckinggripman · 11/05/2021 13:36

I've PMd you x

Rupertpenrysmistress · 12/05/2021 06:08

I hear you. I need to stop again 😩. I can't do this and. Life has to be better than this. I just don't know how it seems so simple. Yet here I am. I feel like just running away but you know job/family and just being a decent human stops me. I don't know if I can though I don't know how.

deadrave · 12/05/2021 23:12

I personally found that I had a problem when I started questioning the amount I drink. If you have to ask yourself is it normal it’s probably not. I really counted up how many units I drink a week and I have realised how significantly over recommendations I am.

needjhelp · 24/05/2021 23:00

Can't cope, what's wrong with me

OP posts:
nimbuscloud · 24/05/2021 23:01

Have you somebody there with you now?

needjhelp · 25/05/2021 22:01

No alone.
I just don't know how I got here.
Managed two days alcohol free last week though.
I'm not proud. That didn't used to be a struggle.
Every time I think I'll manage something happens at work, secondary trauma I guess is the term but it sounds ridiculous

OP posts:
FusionChefGeoff · 25/05/2021 22:09

If you've lost the ability to control your drinking you might benefit from attending an AA meeting and seeing if anything else they say sounds familiar.

Honestly it's not as scary as you think.

Sometimes the way to win the battle is to stop fighting.

Yep phone the AA helpline right now
I’ve been sober 14 years, it works

Beebopawhop · 25/05/2021 22:16

It's not ridiculous feeling like something sets you off. I was at a point well I've picked the kids up and they're annoying me so yes I'll have a drink etc. I did stop for a while with a lovely group on here actually but I'm not sure what happened but I'm assuming most went back to drinking (I did)which is fine but when you feel like you do right now it probably is time to stop for a while at least to detox...the Annie grace 30 day experiment you can start off with that?

Dancingbugbadge · 26/05/2021 22:42

Hi OP how are you doing now? Feel free to PM me if you want a chat. I hope you are ok and getting some RL support.
