Hi all please can I have some advice. Ive always had a bit of a problem with alcohol and it's now out of control. I don't drink all day long but I do drink every evening. It used to be a couple of glasses of wine which crept up to a bottle a night then one and a half and now it's usually two. Last night I drank two bottles and a glass and now I'm scared if I'm honest because I know I have a problem and I don't know how to stop. I've tried just drinking at the weekends but I can't do it I feel so weak. Please can anyone who has been here and beaten it offer some advice. Also I have an open bottle in the fridge should I tip it down the sink? Thank you.

I’d suggest you join another thread that’s already underway, @letssortthis. The OP of this one was drinking similar amounts to you and also feeling out of control: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/alcohol_support/4087711-Finally-sought-help-scared-and-need-support-please

At that level of intake you may well need to reduce gradually, it can be dangerous to stop abruptly.

Also call the AA helpline: www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk/#

Have a look at Annie Grace: learn.thisnakedmind.com/the-alcohol-experiment-registration

And you’ll see lots of really helpful ‘quit lit’ resources recommended on the other threads on this board.

The main thing is to make a start in planning how you’re going to get alcohol out of your life.

Great advice, @SparklingLime

Take it one day at a time @letssortthis.

Have you made a start? If not, make today your Day 1. My 'day 1' was a Friday, which I thought was absolute madness at the time when I had a great excuse to tell myself, "I'll start on Monday".

But do it. Do it TODAY đŸŒŸ

I stopped 11 days ago, similar sort of drinking, easy a bottle, often a bottle and a half.
I just decided enough was enough. It was really easy, I was surprised đŸ˜®
I read a lot of these threads and I think just stopping was the difference. It’s too hard for me to moderate.
I’m drinking lots of nice alcohol free drinks, I feel great and my skin is amazing! ( google before and after drinking photos!! It’s enough to stop you drinking)

I think quitting is much easier if you are ready.

Ahh thank you sooo much for your replies it means a lot that people are happy to help with advice.

Thank you for the links @SparklingLime I shall go on to the other thread and take a look and check out the links.
Thank you for the advice @witchwoo you were very brave going for it on a Friday but I guess when you make that decision it's best to do it there and then.
Thank you @Iris5543 and well done on 11 days I'm glad you are seeing the benefits. I know I can do this I did it for a year before but then crept back into it. I will look at the before and after pics that will be a great motivation.
Just for info since my original post I have cut down - instead of pretty much 1.5-2 bottles a night over the last three days I had 2 glasses one night and then 1 glass Wednesday and 1 glass Thursday and feel so much better for that Smile

That’s amazing progress, @letssortthis. Just realised that the thread I linked you to went quiet. @witchwoo has a great thread about the Alan Carr book which I’m going to join myself.
