Stopping due to high alt

So, I’ve been drinking too much (maybe 60-80units per week for a while).

Doc ran blood tests for something else and, unsurprisingly my ALT levels were high (100). So I’m having another test in a month to check they go down. Obviously, I can’t now drink for a month....

Im on day 3....

Anyone else done this? Did your liver function go back to normal after a month?

Your ALT will come down very quickly if you don't drink any alcohol at all, probably normal level by end of the month perhaps even within a fortnight.

I don't know what my levels were but they probably would have been shocking. The thing that helped me the most was alcohol lied to me by Craig beck. One little book changed my life and giving up alcohol was relatively easy. Good luck. Your body will thank you

I'm in the same boat, blood test cane back as borderline ATL today... how are you getting on?xxx

Waltzina · 20/12/2020 23:17

Hi, @Magic1231. I doing ok, but not as well as I wanted to. I’ve reduced my units down to 40-50 per week. But, tbh, I need to address the reason I’m drinking (unhappy marriage) in order to cut down...

The doctor wanted another blood test a month after the initial one. I’ve got the blood test form, I’m going to do the test after Christmas...

Ahhh, I understand. Especially with the state of the world right now, you do just want to disappear in a glass of wine. I've cut down a lot too.. have a blood test at the end of jan, so fingers crossed the ALT is going down... whether itll be back to normal levels though I'm not sure. Atleast youve reduced how much you drink xxx
