How to find an accountability partner (not AA but sponsor type person)
Scramblinghealingdreaming · 01/10/2020 10:57
Any ideas about how to find an accountability partner. Similar to the concept of AA sponsor but not really as I dont want to go down the AA route.
Is there a forum / group etc based in the UK (am aware of Recovery Elevator and other US forums) where you can build up a support network and find similar like minded people?
As an added bonus, I would really like somebody / a group I could occasionally meet with as well as online. Preferably, but not necessarily, a similar age / sex etc to me. Am I being too picky in my ask here?
I really feel having an accountability partner, somebody going through the same thing, with the same experiences and challenges would be helpful.

You might want to try Smart recovery, my husband used them and is coming up to one year sober

Can I just ask why not A.A.? Sponsorship and the fellowship are some of the huge benefits of A.A. and I personally think it’s why it works so well - it’s a ‘we’ programme, as they say!
Sorry if that’s a nosey question. I’m not trying to promote AA! Just curious.

...im on day 5, I would be open to being your partner if you wish? I would like someone to help me stick to this lifestyle change.
I am happy to share my age and location with you on a private message if you would like.
I understand your need to have someone on this journey with you, to keep you accountable.

There are lots of sober meet up and support on Instagram. I'm the oldest by a mile but it's lovely, freeing and great friendships made
