I have posted before under various usernames.

DP has been drinking for the last 15 years, he had reached a point of 12/12 cans of lager/cider a night and was always horribly hungover, anxious etc.

He was engaging with local alcohol support services and a social worker in the hopes of a rehab place, but still drinking to excess.

But!
2 weeks ago he got sick, vomiting, pooing, can't eat anything sick, for 4 days...he did not drink during this time.

He wants to stop drinking, last night drank half a can of cider but "didn't really fancy it"- I wonder how long this will stick for it if he will just slip slowly back into alcoholism?

The period of sickness seems to have proved to him that the physical dependence/withdrawal isn't as bad as he feared, and it is mainly a mental challenge!
