Want to give up

I’m stuck in a rut, drinking a bottle wine every night. Single parent to 3 children. I go to the gym 4 times a week but will still get home and drink wine. I really want to eat healthy foods and once I do it once I’ll be fine it’s just starting it.
I’ve tried hobbies, knitting, puzzle etc but doesn’t work. Any suggestions or advice please? Thanks

Hi OP. What worked for me was reading lots and lots of books and blogs. A lot of people will recommend Alan Carr. I liked Jason Vale’s book, and Annie Grace’s book This Naked Mind. I read everything I could get my hands on and it helped me enormously. If you have a kindle there are dozens available to you right now. Blogs - try Lotti D and Mummy Was A Secret Drinker. I found reading them through from the start and following their journeys so, so helpful.

Having good AF drink options in the house also is very helpful if you feel you’re missing the ritual of pouring a drink to mark the end of a busy day.

I’m sure others will be along soon with their suggestions but know that once you do stop, you will start to feel incredible benefits. Not immediately, but they will come and they’re so worth it. Sleep, weight, anxiety, finances, skin, hair, focus - everything gets so much better. Good luck.

Just in case it’s unclear from my post above, I meant books about giving up booze. Xmas Blush I became quite obsessed. I learnt so much about what happens when you drink, how alcohol works, and how other people made the change that worked for them.

I’ve got 3 books that I’ve read a bit of but not carried on. Jason vale, kick the drink easily
Alan Carr the easy way for women to stop drinking easily and this naked kind Annie grace

Sounds like you have the usual suspects. Here’s one of the blogs I mentioned. She’s a kiwi, very straight talking. livingwithoutalcohol.blogspot.com/

How are you getting on HedgeHogFoxBadger?

All of the above suggestions are great. I highly recommend Allen Carr. But don't be put off if you have a few false starts. Eventually it will all click into place.

Hasn’t happened! Last night I drank a bottle of wine and went to bed and thought I don’t even feel like I’ve had a drink, that’s bad. I’ve brought a can of pink gin to have tonight and that’s it

@HedgeHogFoxBadger do you want to moderate or give up entirely? As daft as it sounds, moderating is a lot more difficult, as you can convince yourself that a couple of drinks is acceptable, then you're on the slippery slope.

Cutting out entirely works so much better, once you decide not to have that first drink and start to see the benefits. And you don't have that constant inner dialogue wearing you down.

Day 55 here. I'm rooting for you. Flowers
