Trying to cut out mid week drinking, anyone in ?

I've developed a really bad habit of drinking during the week and I need to stop!
I've had an extremely rough couple of years but in the last 6 months my drinking has been creeping up and up to a bottle of wine a night, most nights, some weeks it's been every night Confused

I may be kidding myself here but I've never been in this position before of needing to 'control' my drinking.

Before I decided to give up completely ( or am forced to Blush) I want to give ' control' a go. I know I probably sound pathetic to some of you ' in the know ' but I'm going to try this first ( I really love my wine and don't want to stop completely...if at all possible 🙈)

Has anyone managed this or am I kidding myself?

Also, Anyone in ?

I have however decided to drink today. Day off work tomorrow so a couple of wine glasses are planned.
Then tomorrow back to alcohol free for a week

Can I join please? I really need to stop drinking my glass of wine during the week nights. I know it's not the quantity but I genuinely feel a compulsion to have that one glass from Wednesday onwards.

DrDreReturns · 06/06/2019 07:13

Try doing something in the evening like going to the gym. I find that removes the temptation to drink.

ultrababy · 06/06/2019 20:25

Well I'm here having a peppermint tea while DP is having a glass of red. I can do this.

fedup21 · 06/06/2019 20:36

This is a good idea. I don’t drink if I have work the next day but I’m only part time! I need to expand to more days.

iwantavuvezela · 06/06/2019 20:45

I have come to join you all .... I have also found that through some life events my drinking crept up to half a bottle every day and sometimes it would seem the bottle was almost gone. Unfortunately I a, now carrying those choices on my belly, so also hoping not drinking will slim that down, and tired of reaching for the neuro fen in morning.

So now I am going to go dry from Monday - Thursday. If I go out (not often - during the week and have a drink then I will have to give up a weekend day).
So first week going fine! (Although only started on Tuesday!)

When I worked shifts I had four clear days of no drinking. And I found it easier. Working mon-fri makes it so much easier to open a bottle of wine of an evening.

ultrababy · 06/06/2019 20:59

I don't mind having a drink fri and sat. Like I said before. It's not the quantity. I hate being even tipsy so even when I'm out it's never more than three drinks it's just the frequency. I wake up so cross with myself and then start worrying that I'm developing a dependancy. Can you have an alcohol problem with only 1-2 glasses?

HippyTrails · 10/06/2019 09:58

I'm in - been struggling a fair bit lately. Manage 3-4 drink free nights & then the weekend arrives & most things are more enjoyable with a glass of wine until I suddenly realise I have drunk 2 bottles of wine over the course of the day, feel hungover the next day & repeat the same thing. At work today feeling rotten & annoyed with myself.

Today is however a new day & i'm going to make a start

pinklady301 · 15/06/2019 00:25

I'm in as well :)

For a few years I drank far far too much. One can of lager or glass of white wine a night minimum for the whole week! That's terrible isn't it Blush I think I rarely missed a day I didn't drink. It was usually only the one drink but every day!

It was like my little reward after a hard days work and single motherhood. My parents also drink every day (wine with meals) so I grew up thinking it was okay.

I knew I had a dependency issue when I didn't have anything in the house and couldn't easily pop out - I would feel anxious like I needed it. Then I knew I had a problem.

Can't explain it as don't fancy one during the day, it's just that one drink, that one treat in the evenings that made me happy.

So since Monday of this week I haven't had a drink at all and not planning to until at least my birthday (in 3 weeks). I'm also starting to eat better too to try and be healthier. I might join one of the losing weight threads too. I do have a right beer belly Confused

Well done all on the thread for trying to make the change too and we can do it!

I too find evenings a bit weird and boring without a drink but it helps having a drink by my bed of something really tasty ( currently have an Aloe Vera drink).

Good luck all and keep going Smile

I started doing this in 2015 and have kept it up since. It really helps to start with a period of not drinking at all - I did my first dry June and haven't looked back.

I still have a drink on weekends, and not drinking the rest of the time means I can justify buying gin that I really like.

I still do two dry months a year just because I like the sleep. Even a single glass makes my sleep less good, but that's just me.

gardeningangel · 22/06/2019 08:23

I have tried to stop so many times, but feel like I don't get a lot of support from other half. We have a few heated debates where he'll say "but I like a drink", to which I have said that I don't mind him drinking just don't offer me one, or don't put it in a wineglass.
We'll then have a pact where we won't drink this week, this sunday, but because he's had a stressful day by Tuesday he'll walk in with 2 bottles of red wine and that's my will power smashed. I then wake up with a thick head, running around getting the kids ready for school, feeling totally beaten.
