30 years sober today

Just that really. I'm lying in bed with a goofy smile on my face, totally blown away, thinking back over those years. Bad times, good times: sober times.

So if you're just starting out, it can be done. If I can do it, you can too.

I wondered about doing an Ask Me Anything but I've probably forgotten half of what I ever knew. I'll ponder for a bit ..

But everything good in my life stems from my sobriety. My DSs are 23 and 26. They've never seen me drink.

I've done an AMA which got a lot of responses. I'm really glad I did it.

Looking at all the threads on Alcohol Support it's sad how little traffic there is to this board when you think how many people have drinking problems. I can't think of any way to improve matters though

Congratulations on 30 years sober! My father was an alcoholic. I would like to cut back. I usually only drink half a bottle of wine, but it is several times a week. I worry sometimes about it. I would feel better if it were just twice a week or even once a week. How much were you drinking and why did you decide to quit? What was the thing that made you make the big move?

Congratulations !! Massive achievement. Makes me smile. I am 7 years sober this year, mother to a 4&3 year old. My life is so much better, nicer, happier now. Xxx

I was drinking 1/4 bottle of vodka and two 2 litre bottles of cider a day when I stopped drinking, StarlightIntheNight.

I explain how and why I got sober in quite a lot of detail in my AMA thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/AMA/3551853-Im-30-years-sober-today-Ask-me-anything
