First dry night in months

I'm up this morning and feeling very proud/surprised with myself for having the very first dry night in months and months. I am usually on a bottle a night. Sometimes a bottle and a half. So this is huge for me and I just wanted to share.

Only feeling slightly under the weather so that factored into it I think. Plus I'm skint. In a stressy mood and just wanted a bubble bath and a cup of tea.

The only issue I had was with falling asleep. Obviously it's easier for me and I'm used to falling asleep feeling bladdered. Yesterday I was stone cold sober so I really struggled to fall asleep. Was this an issue for anyone else at first when cutting down?

Well done you! That is great. I'm going to really try to cut down. Woke up this morning feeling yuk. A bottle done in last night.

FogCutter · 20/11/2018 07:59

Well done, that's fantastic!

Tea has caffeine in which will keep you awake. Try a hot bath and a herb tea instead, no screens/ phone for 2 hours before bed either.

Seth · 20/11/2018 08:04

Similar to you and I know that feeling. Either make your bed super cosy, clean sheets etc so you feel as relaxed as possible and read until you drop off or what I have found works recently )and tied in nicely with no booze) is listen to a podcast .. The bubble hour is great. Good luck

Seth · 20/11/2018 08:06

Or of course there are podcasts to get you off to sleep. It's a different kind of falling asleep to what we are used to..,more floaty and drifting into sleep rather than passing out Hmm

Malibeau · 20/11/2018 08:29

@bellalou1234 I know the feeling! I started sometimes even just by having a lower percentage alcohol wine..?! I always chose at least a 12%'er, then tried going down to a 10%, made me just feel bloated so I was less inclined to drink much of it..!

@FogCutter Ah I did wonder about the caffeine in tea but wasn't sure if it affected me anymore, I may have been wrong. Will try a herbal tea tonight!

@Seth Thank you! Are there any specific podcasts you recommend?

Hi I am in a similar position to you. Drinking in the evenings mainly out of boredom and stress. I’m a single parent. I feel like I have no will power to stop although tonight I have decided I’m not having any but I’m sitting here and that’s all I can think of!

bellalou1234 · 20/11/2018 19:38

Same I'm so bored. Had loads chocolate. God why do I love wine so much

ddogmum · 20/11/2018 19:46

I've found since being pregnant, that drinking water or juice out of a wine glass helps... and I used to be a wine drinker every night

AlwaysSunshine81 · 20/11/2018 20:31

I had a becks blue and that helped lol

Malibeau · 21/11/2018 07:51

Ooh yes I remember drinking Schloer from a wine glass when I was pregnant. I know the single parent stresses and strains too. It's tough, really tough.

I managed my second dry night in a row last night, still had a cuppa but slept better than last night. Finding the wine less and less appealing. Wonder what this evening will hold however.

HI how u getting on? I struggled until about 8pm last night and then after that I was ok! I’m already thinking I want wine tonight but I’m not going to cave, going to gym later

ddogmum · 21/11/2018 21:43

How you all doing? I tried non alcoholic mulled wine today, and liked it!
CANT STAND normal non alcoholic wine though... it's just insulting

bellalou1234 · 21/11/2018 22:54

Night 2 for me so tempted to go to shop after work for wine glad I didnt

Malibeau · 22/11/2018 07:33

Ooh not heard of non alcoholic mulled wine! Will have to give it a try.

I caved on my 3rd night last night and had 3 glasses of wine. Not a whole bottle though so I'm pleased I didn't get that far at least..! Little steps. Weight has dropped a few pounds of wine bloat already.

Malibeau · 22/11/2018 07:35

I find definitely after making it 2 days it's a lot less appealing. I didn't enjoy my 3 glasses as much as I normally would have.

If there's a good reason for me to stay sober in an evening, I can. But otherwise I want a drink (or 2 or 3). How can I motivate to want to not drink?

DuckPancake · 01/12/2018 02:06

@Mum2jenny I know the feeling. I'm on my second bottle this evening. Argument with DP hasn't put me in the best mood. I can only think of long term health reasons to not drink. Short term, it's hard to think of reasons not to.

Mum2jenny · 01/12/2018 20:16

Duckpancake Snap. I'm being good, only 2 glasses of wine tonight.

DuckPancake · 03/12/2018 08:36

@Mum2jenny Well done, how did you get on with the rest of the weekend? We went to a birthday dinner so I have no idea how much I had on Saturday night. Dry Sunday though and planning on dry again tonight. Wonder if it's possible to make it till Friday?

Mum2jenny · 04/12/2018 19:07

Duckpancake not too bad, but I'm certain tonight is not going to be good. Absolutely lousy day at work and the rest of the week isn't looking better. Came home via a shop and one bottle of wine later......
